Welcome

On behalf of the Directors of the Australasian (iron and steel) Slag Association
I am pleased to invite you to the Sustainability & Slag Conference 2007 -
Sustainability, Construction Materials and your Bottom Line.

This conference comes at a time when climate change and sustainability are very much on the nation's agenda. As a delegate, you will have the unique opportunity to hear from and speak with other national and international delegates with an interest in sustainability and the built environment.

Sessions 1 and 2 set the scene, providing context and various perspectives on sustainability, design and construction paradigms. In Session 3 delegates can choose from one of three thematic workshops addressing the economic, regulatory and practical implications of resource recovery to achieve sustainable outcomes in the built environment.

We are delighted that Bob Baldwin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources has agreed to open the Conference and grateful for his department's support of the Conference. Our thanks also to Platinum, Silver and Bronze sponsors and special invited presenters, whose contributions have enabled us to present a well-balanced program.

Consider exploring further the day's networking opportunities by attending the conference dinner.

If you are interested in durability of structures, greenhouse gas reduction and or resource recovery in the construction industry this conference is for you.

The conference venue, the Shangri-La Hotel, is superbly located in the historic Rocks district over-looking Sydney Harbour, close to major tourist attractions, Sydney's Central Business District and shopping facilities.

I look forward to welcoming you to Sydney and to the ASA's second Sustainability and Slag Conference this May.

Chairman, ASA
