Technical research represents one of the ASA's core undertakings. More specifically, the Association is guided towards the achievement of the following technical objectives:

  • To reduce technology gaps in our understanding of iron and steel slag materials in order to better promote the full utilisation of these products and increase awareness of the value-added benefits associated with their use.
  • To establish an international network of iron and steel slag associations for the purpose of sharing technical information and research on new value-adding opportunities.
  • To co-operate with other associations, technical societies and government departments to such an end that full recognition of the uses of slag are recognised, and the material itself is appreciated as a well-defined, technically-desirable resource.

In striving towards these goals, the Association has undertaken - and continues to undertake – various programs, consultations and initiatives centred around the development of these core objectives.
